What should I expect in a Pilates exercise session?
Exercise programs are initiated after a medical history review and an initial evaluation of posture, strength, flexibility, joint motion, balance, and coordination has been taken. This ensures that your Pilates program is set at the appropriate level based on your goals and fitness level. Exercises may be performed on a mat or on specifically designed pieces of apparatus. Occasionally, manual therapy techniques are included to help expedite results.

What am I exercising on?
Pilates apparatus use a combination of springs and levers to create a smooth resistance or assistance to movement. The ProBalance Pilates Studio uses equipment from Balanced Body, Inc. and has the following apparatus: Three reformers, trapeze table, wall unit, combo chair, wunda chair, step barrel, and various props (discs, balance boards, foam rollers, balls).

Is Pilates safe when I have an injury?
Pilates is a very gentle yet challenging form of exercise. Pilates is ideal for individuals who are currently recovering from an injury or who have a predisposing physical condition when performed with the appropriate precautions and by a skilled practitioner. Some examples include: Back Injuries or surgeries, neck pain or injury, shoulder injuries, hip, knee, and ankle injuries, arthritis, osteoporosis, and prenatal and postpartum conditions

Will my insurance or FlexSpend account cover Pilates?
Pilates services for rehabilitation may be reimbursable by your insurance company if instructed by a physical therapist as it is a form of therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular reeducation, and functional retraining. You may also be able to submit your receipts towards your FlexSpend account when services are performed by a physical therapist or under the recommendation of a medical professional. See the Physical Therapy FAQ's for additional information.

Is there a difference in pricing between sessions taught by physical therapists (PT's) versus Pilates fitness instructors?
There is a difference in pricing due to the difference in skill and scope of practice when dealing with clients who currently have or have had past injuries or physical limitations. These clients may require different exercise progressions or adaptations of the exercises based on their medical history. Pilates sessions for wellness (whether instructed by PT's or Pilates fitness instructors) are not reimbursable by insurance but can be purchased in packages for greater discounts. See Pricing page for details.

Do you offer classes or other cost saving alternatives?
Pilates sessions may be performed as privates, duets, trios, or in groups of four at ProBalance on the apparatus. It is requested that clients see an instructor or PT for an initial private evaluation and exercise session to ensure that the individual is appropriate for a less supervised class. There is also an independent studio option for those individuals who demonstrate the proper form and safety to continue their sessions on the apparatus without direct supervision.

Can I perform Pilates at home?

While the Pilates apparatus in the studio appropriately facilitates or challenges movement retraining, home exercise programs are regularly taught and encouraged by the therapists and instructors to ensure a balanced exercise routine. This is often done using various bands, props, balls, and gravity. It is recommended that Pilates exercise be performed 2-3 times a week for maximum results.

Do you offer Prenatal or Postpartum Pilates classes?
Motherhood brings vast changes in the body both during and after pregnancy. ProBalance offers private and semi-private sessions for expectant moms, post-partum "moms only" classes, and even mom & baby to address the special needs of this population.

Is there a cancellation policy?
Yes. As a courtesy to the practitioners and to clients who may be on a waiting list, it is requested that 24 hours notice be given prior to any changes to appointment times in order to avoid a $35 cancellation fee.
