Pilates is a very precise form of exercise that focuses on quality versus quantity of movement. The Pilates instructor or therapist guides the client/patient through a specific progression of exercise designed to increase core strength, improve flexibility, develop postural control, and teach proper movement strategies. Pilates exercise can be performed on a mat with or without props or on special apparatus which use springs and levers for assistance and resistance.
